Summer has passed and fall is here once again. With the leaves turning and autumn colors emerging, local beers tend to change, too, getting a little darker in color and heartier in alcohol content. Here’s our list of five amazing fall beers to try from Denver-area breweries during these shorter, cooler days.

Barrel Aged Nightmare Fuel (River North Brewery) - This is a spectacular offering from River North--an Imperial Stout with dark roast coffee, aged in whiskey barrels. Last year's version was 13.5% ABV. Release date: Wednesday, October 5, 2016.
Vanilla Bean Mexican Chocolate Stout (Copper Kettle Brewing Co.) - Mexican Chocolate Stout is, arguably, the beer that made Copper Kettle famous. By adding Vanilla Beans, they may have improved on the sublime. Release date: Sunday, October 9, 2016.
Imperial Pumpkin (Dry Dock Brewing Co.) - Autumn just wouldn't be the same without a pumpkin beer. Leave it to Dry Dock to crank it up into the Imperial category. This beer (9.0% ABV) has spice, brown sugar and pumpkin gourd characteristics. Look for it on tap or in bombers.
Pancakes Maple Porter (Renegade Brewing Co.) - If you've had your fill of pumpkin beers, try this for a different take on autumn. It's a dark and roasty porter; the maple extract gives you a hint of sweetness without that cloying feeling.
King Nalu Koa'e Imperial IPA (Declaration Brewing Co.) - Now available in cans, this hop monster features Citra hops. The brewing process was in full swing by mid-September, so you should be enjoying it by early October and throughout the autumn.
